About Us
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers Calumet Chapter 112 was chartered in Munster, IN in 1959. As a local chapter of the international, Dearborn-based, Society of Manufacturing Engineers (http://www.sme.org/cgi-bin/abouthtml.pl?/html/about.htm&&&SME&), Calumet Chapter 112 supports some 250 manufacturing members and their companies in the greater Calumet area. This area spans approximately from Joliet, IL on the west to Michigan City, IN on the east and generally between the I-80 and US 30 corridors. The Chapter has some slight geographic governance overlap with other chapters in the area, including Chicago Chapter 5 to the north and South Bend Chapter 30 to the east.
The mission of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers is to be internationally recognized by manufacturing practitioners, companies and other organizations as their source for information, education and networking and advance manufacturing knowledge. The Chapter accomplishes this mission locally by organizing manufacturing related events, plant tours, and other activities, along with sponsoring manufacturing students by way of scholarships bi-annually at local universities and colleges.
Board of Directors
SME Calumet Chapter 112 has a Board of Directors that is sworn in every December in order to serve for the next calendar year. The By-Laws stipulate that a Board must exist at all times and be able to operate the Chapter daily.
